ANOTHER SEASON FULL OF CHALLENGES               July 2005
The 2005/2006 season is upon us again and as a Club we can work together to meet and deal with what lies ahead.

As a start, at the Annual General Meeting on 1st July 2005 some new blood has come on board to share the load that has been borne by too few for too long.

The new Committee for 2005/2006 comprises:
PRESIDENT: Darren Nagle            VICE PRESIDENT: Sandro Capocchi **
SECRETARY: Michael Felle **      TREASURER: Tony Gleeson
SPONSORSHIP MANAGER: Currently vacant
SOCIAL MANAGER: Penny Fuhrmann **
CANTEEN MANAGER: Adele Walker **
EQUIPMENT MANAGER: Peter Fenaughty **
JUNIOR SECTION CO–ORDINATER: Charlie Walker
** denotes new Committee members.

Darren Nagle and Tony Gleeson advised the AGM that this was their last year as President and Treasurer and were giving 12 months notice of their clear intent.

Even though John and Jodie Talone have ‘officially’ stood down from their respective positions, as true club supporters they have advised they will assist the new Secretary and Canteen Manager on any issues.

The Committee is collectively taking on the Sponsorship role. Anybody who thinks they can lends a hand or has any ideas please speak to a Committee member.

FEES for 2005/2006
The Committee has determined that fees for 2005/2006 are:
SENIOR PLAYERS:
$150 Cricket Club plus $45 Sporting Club = $195 and $5.00 per match day.
++ Students and Unemployed $75 Cricket Club

JUNIOR PLAYERS
$110 Cricket Club plus $25 Sporting Club = $135 and NO match day payments.
(Family sporting Club membership is $60)

WHY HAVE FEES INCREASED?????

Umpire costs are to increase in 2005/2006
Equipment costs are to increase in 2005/2006
As will Insurance, Ground Maintenance and the four Association (VTCA, MMVCA, NWCA and VWCA) affiliation fees.

We have also decided to implement a $500 Christmas Bonus draw for Senior members to encourage early payment of the Annual Fees.

Junior Section members will have a separate Early Payment Bonus system.

EARLY PAYMENT BONUS:
All Senior members who pay their Annual Fees early will be entered into a $500 one prize only draw to be made on the last match day in December 2005 – just in time for Christmas.

If you pay the Annual Fees in full by end of September 2005 = 4 entries
If you pay the Annual Fees in full by end of October 2005 = 3 entries
If you pay the Annual Fees in full by end of November 2005 = 2 entries
If you pay the Annual Fees in full by 15 December 2005 = 1 entry

NON PAYMENT OF ANNUAL FEES:
It is with some regret that the Club has had to formally advise the MMVCA of the un-financial status of a number of Senior players from the 2004/2005 group.
Despite regular requests, these players put themselves ahead of the Club. These Senior players will not be able to play at Moonee Valley or any other Club until this un-financial status is remedied.

In 2005/2006, NO player will be allowed to continue playing from January 2006 onwards unless the Annual Fees are paid OR some formal written alternate payment arrangement has been established with the Senior Treasurer (SENIORS) or Junior Section Treasurer (JUNIORS).

OTHER NEWS:

A sponsorship linked proposal for the provision of MVCC shirts is at present being developed.

Also a large and diverse range of NEW social activities and fund raising events has already been discussed at length by your Committee and watch out for the news on these items.

If you have any thoughts to ADD to the melting pot don’t hesitate to call your Committee members.

AND FROM THE COACH

Greetings to all,

Welcome to the upcoming 2005/06 season, one I believe to not only be promising and exciting, but one of further change for the Moonee Valley Cricket Club.

As coach of the cricket club, whilst I identify the basic and most common component of training is net practice, I will continue to provide a wide variety of activities that are an important supplement to batting and bowling skills practice.

Practice will no longer consist of players simply rolling up for “a bat”, for “a bowl” and “a chat” as these sessions are not for clubs who want to succeed. Two notable sayings that I preach are “practice doesn’t make perfect, quality practice makes perfect” and “if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail”.

I am pleased to announce that Mark Gauci will continue as the clubs Chairman of Selector. Mark will again be invaluable to myself in his current playing role and will be able to provide important background information as to the current playing list at the club.

I look forward to what will be the biggest challenge in my coaching career and would like to wish everyone all the very best for the upcoming season.
