Players wanted for our Women's cricket team

Women’s team players – join Moonee Valley

Moonee Valley Cricket Club is recruiting now for our women’s team, which plays in the Twenty20 social competition in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association.

Experience isn’t required – the majority of the players in our team last season were new to cricket – but they gelled together and improved every week to play their best game of the season in the Grand Final – taking out the Premiership.

Now’s the chance for wives, partners, mums, sisters and friends of male cricketers, as well as any girls or women keen on trying the sport to step up and show the blokes how it’s done, and help the club to win back-to-back flags.

Our team – aged from 13 upwards and including mums – play on Sundays, with our home ground at Ormond Park in Moonee Ponds.

Most matches start at midday, and take around two to three hours. The club has cricket gear available so the players don’t have to go out and buy a kit. Our uniform is a white club cricket shirt and black skins.

Several of our premiership players are unavailable because of injury, family reasons or relocation to country or interstate, so there are vacancies.

Pre-season training hasn’t yet started as cricket is waiting for restrictions to ease under the coronavirus roadmap – hopefully towards the end of October. Games are expected to start in early/mid November.

Anyone interested can phone or text MVCC President Charlie Walker on 0411 705 381 or email charlie.walker@optusnet.com.au
