Junior performances - October 18-20 weekend

by Brendan Rhodes

Once again a 50 per cent weekend on the field, with three wins and three losses in senior cricket, while our juniors had one win, one loss, one draw, one bye and great amount of fun!

Unfortunately our 7th Grade senior team had to forfeit due to a lack of available numbers, so if any of you are keen for a game, please let me know as soon possible (by 5pm Tuesday if possible) and we should have no problems accommodating you on either Saturday or Sunday).

On another note, our 1st Grade Twenty20 team gets its campaign underway tonight (Tuesday, October 22) at 5pm with a home game on the turf pitch against Footscray ANA. Get down to Ormond Park, have a hit in the nets with the other senior players - you'll be made most welcome - and get behind the team as we aim for a win to kick off the campaign. The canteen (and bar) will be open and I believe we have a barbecue running as well. I can't think of a better way to spend a Tuesday night. We are actually likely to have a game on each of the next three or four Tuesdays - so pencil them into your calendar.

This Saturday night is our club's first big official function in the new clubrooms - our 2009-10 Team Of The Decade function, where we celebrate the first time the Valleys won both the first and second grade premierships in the same season. Tickets are $70 per person or $120 per couple and gives you catered gourmet food, a drink on arrival, a lucky door prize raffle ticket with a host of great prizes and a terrific night with the recent greats of our club. Contact Charlie Walker at charlie.walker@optusnet.com.au to book your spot.

Here's how everyone went at the weekend, with five junior boys playing senior cricket and producing some excellent results.

1st Grade - 40 overs - Moonee Valley 254 def Sanctuary Lakes 87 by 167 runs. A huge win for our top team, led by u16 coach Josh Gorry with 56, import Sameera Vithana with 52 and former junior Dan Comande with 5/19. Ladder Position: 1st

2nd Grade - 40 overs - Moonee Valley 9/228 def Sanctuary Lakes 98 by 130 runs. Club great Mark Gauci was brilliant and unlucky to make 99, while our great swing bowler Jim Polonidis took 5/6 - you couldn't find anyone better to learn this craft from than Pola if you want to come to senior training! Ladder Position: 1st

3rd Grade - 45 overs - Moonee Valley 149 lost to Royal Park Reds 152 by three runs. Heartbreak as we fell just short of staying unbeaten in a thriller. Our greatest ever player Ian Denny made 38 and I got 26, while Sagar Bhatia 3/20 and another club great Dean Jukic 3/29 starred with the ball. Ladder Position: 3rd

4th Grade - 45 overs - Moonee Valley 50 lost to Burnley CYMS 150 by 100 runs - (Luca Nimorakiotakis 4/18 off 9 overs and 8 runs was a contender for man of the match with a brilliant spell of bowling, while Felix Fischer 0/20 off six before taking the gloves and grabbing a catch and a stumping, plus 0no was a strong contender for MVP votes as well. Ladder Position: 8th

5th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley 177 def Donnybrook 158 by 19 runs. Another tight game for our Shiners. Big hitting Liam Farrell made 78no and Sam Gunther took 3/24. Ladder Position: 2nd

6th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley 167 lost to Sydenham-Hillside 5/207 by 40 runs (Dejan Gilevski took the new ball and bowled beyond his years. His 0/29 didn't do him justice. Josh Norsetter took 1/41 and made 5, while Jakob Haskell only conceded four byes in 35 overs and made 3). Ladder Position: 6th

7th Grade - 35 overs - Moonee Valley lost to Gowanbrae on forfeit. Ladder Position: 6th

Under 16 (1) - T21 - Moonee Valley 4/90 lost to Strathmore 2/139 by 49 runs. No scores submitted. Ladder Position: 6th

Under 16 (2) - T20 - Moonee Valley 137 def Pascoe Vale United 5/104 by 33 runs. First win in U16s for this teams! Well done! Tomas Morrissy 40 and Thomas Kruspe 36 had a great opening partnership and Dejan Gilevski made 22 at No.3. Riley Walsh 2/9 and Harry Pickering 2/18 starred with the ball. Ladder Position: 3rd

Under 14 (1) - T20 - Moonee Valley bye. Ladder Position: 5th

Under 12 (4) - T20 - Moonee Valley v Keilor Park no result submitted. Ladder Position: 2nd

With four teams to pick for Saturday and three for Sunday, there is a good chance of positions being available on either day - especially on Sunday, and with you U16/2 boys having a week off, I reckon we can accommodate quite a number of you this week! Please let me know by replying to this email if you are available for 5pm tomorrow (Tuesday) and we'll do our best to get you a game. If you're not sure at this stage, please let me know this as well.

GO VALLEYS!
