Our Sunil's selected to play for Australia
Moonee Valley's Sunil Bhandari will be representing Australia at an Over 55s tournament in New Zealand in February.
Sunil has an excellent tournament representing Victoria in Perth earlier this season, and was rewarded with the Baggy Green for the Christchurch tournament. A left arm orthodox spinner, Sunil (pictured right) has been a big wicket taker for Moonee Valley across his 67 games, first playing with us in 2013/14. Up to the start of this season he had taken 131 wickets @ 8.87 - the second-best bowling average in our history. Sunil will become the sixth Moonee Valley player to take the field for Australia. Rex Bennett and Neil King played in the Australian Over 60s Ashes in England in 2015 and did something the Aussies were unable to do at that time - beat the Poms and bring home the trophy! International star Fawad Ahmed played two Twenty20 games for Moonee Valley. He has represented Australia at Twenty20 and One Day International level and toured England and the West Indies as part of our Test squad. Andrew Payton, who played 79 games for Moonee Valley starting in 2004/05, was a key member of the Australian team at the Special Olympics in India in 2006, where we won the bronze medal. And Damien Clarke, who played 24 games with Moonee Valley starting in 2017/18, played for Australia in a disabilities tournament.

A great games milestone for Dynamic Dean

Above: Dean Jukic and his teammates for his 350th game: L-R Shiva Chhabra, Frank Ripa, Luke Sevenson, Mukul Sharma, Lachlan Smith, Sudarshan Devkota, Chris Love, Dean Jukic, Andreas Skiotis, Ben Baldacchino, Joey Ripa and Jason Ripa. Dean Jukic has become just the sixth player in more than a half century of Moonee Valley history to play 350 games for our club. Pulling on the whites for the Fourths at home on December 7, Deano hit 22 runs as we easily accounted for Barnawartha. The popular Life Member has also brought up 450 wickets - our fourth-highest tally, and his 22 runs on Sunday took him to 5493 runs for the club - our ninth-highest at Moonee Valley. A few of his teammates from across the years came down to Ormond Park to wish Deano well for his milestone. At left: Celebrating the milestone with great mates and fellow Life Members - L-R Mark Gauci, Jim Polonidis, Dean Jukic and John Talone. He has been a stalwart of our club since making his Moonee Valley debut in 1998/99 and has always been willing to pitch in and help, including several seasons on the committee. Deano was honored with Life Membership in 2015/16. He is a four-time Moonee Valley Wisden Player of the Year, and has been selected in the Moonee Valley Wisden Team of the Year six times. Deano is the current Most Valuable Player winner for the Fourths, and jointly holds the record for most MVP awards with Jim Polonidis - six each. He holds First Eleven cap No. 122 - debuting in our highest grade in Round 5 in his debut year. Across the seasons the three-time Premiership player has won four batting awards and six bowling awards, underlying his value to any team he plays in. Deano also won the Sean O'Kane Award - the club champion for all grades other than the Firsts - in 2019/20. He's a true ornament of our Club, and here's to many more milestones in Deano's career.

A REVERSAL OF FORTUNES FOR TOM J

The Ormond Park pavilion was packed out for our Reverse Raffle night, which was a roaring success. We sold all of the 400 tickets for the event, and the major prize was won by Tom Janetzki. Above: Our raffle winner Tom Janetzki (centre) with Jack Newman (left) and Brayden McGregor. Our thanks go to the organisers of the Reverse Raffle - one of our major fundraisers for the year - particularly Jack Newman, Brayden McGregor and Ian Denny. Thanks also to the outside support we received for our event, including the group from the Maribyrnong Park St Marys Cricket Club, and the crew of Western Australian visitors across for a week with our curator Matt Philpott. Thanks also to the support from member of the Moonee Valley Bowls Club. We also appreciate the last-minute inclusion of Michael Bourke from Memorabilia Magic, who turned up with framed photos and other memorabilia from the football, cricket and horse-racing world. Michael was an absolute hoot with his auctioning routine, and had the crowd in stitches as he worked around the room. The auction result was also a valuable boost to our takings on the night. We all had fun when Michael identified Dom Gibaldi as the sole North Melbourne supporters in attendance. He must have felt sorry for the long-suffering Dom, and donated to him the only piece of Kangaroos memorabilia - a frame photo of Glenn Archer. Our thanks also go to our sponsors Dorr Paper & Food Supplies and to Frankie's Pizza for looking after us with the excellent food on the night. Thanks also to our volunteers in the kitchen and bar who kept us well provisioned - with special thanks particularly to Sarah Fenn, Adele Walker, Paul Simon, Paul Sevenson and Allan Cumming. ***For more photos from the event click HERE
