OUR NIGHT OF NIGHTS -

PRESENTATION 2023

Moonee Valley players, partners and supporters gathered at the Moonee Ponds Club on April 16 for our gala event of the season, the 2022/23 Presentation Night.
Proudly holding their Lindsay Jones Best Clubperson plaques - Adele and Charlie Walker. It was a night full of recognition, achievement and surprises, with trophies and announcements.
The Moonee Valley Cricket Club's most prestigious honor, the Lindsay Jones Best Clubperson award, was jointly presented to Adele and Charlie Walker.

Salman Afridi was announced our 2022/23 Club Champion, which was no surprise given his stellar season in the Firsts.
The Sean O'Kane Award, for the best player in all other grades, was taken out by Chand Shrestha, who had a great season with bat, ball and in the field, and capped it off with the Fourth Eleven premiership.
The Lindsay Jones honor was a record-extending fifth for club president Charlie Walker, but the honor was really about wife Adele, and her support for Moonee Valley in opening their home to host overseas players over more than a decade - with 2022/23 being our Pakistan first class players Wasim Abbas and Salman Afridi.

Go Fourths, and Multiply (your flags)!

Moonee Valley Fourths fought back strongly from a precarious position to win the 2022/23 Mercantile C Sunday Premiership on March 19.

The Premiership winning Fourths with their flag and shield. L-R. Back - Maks Rahman, Jim Polonidis, Manu Singh and Vinnie Singh. Front - Sunny Singh, Mitch Britton, Jay Patel, Cullan Morrissy, Sam Carbone, Chand Shrestha, Sagar Bhatia and Prashant Hirani.
Jay Patel and Vinnie Singh put up a strong rearguard action after we slumped to 8/65 batting first. Their 79-run ninth-wicket partnership helped us set a competitive target of 154, and Jay was unlucky to miss his 50. It was our best ninth wicket partnership in any grade this season - and came at the right time.
Despite a few flutters Power House was unable to reach our target.

The chief destroyer was Jay Patel with 6/22 – bringing up his 50th wicket for Moonee Valley in the process. Prashant Hirani claimed the other four wickets.
The match was played at Brens Oval in Parkville. Our Fourths had finished top of the ladder and earned a home final, but Ormond Park was occupied by our Firsts Grand Final.
It was two Premierships in two seasons for skipper Manu Singh – he led our Fourths to a flag in 2020/21, then had a year off due to work commitments. But he was back on deck this season, and resumed where he left off.
It was premiership No. 5 for club legend Jim Polonidis, and No. 4 for Sam Carbone.

OUR SENIORS AT THE NORTH-WEST AWARDS

Dean Jukic and Sarah Fenn took out best-in-comp awards at the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association presentation night on March 31.
Plenty to celebrate: Dean Jukic with his bowling award and Tara Newman with the Premiership flag. And Premiership-winning Women's team captain Tara Newman was at the dinner to accept the 2022/23 flag - our third in a row.

Dean took an amazing 25 wickets @ 13.6 in our Fifths - a tally that rivalled the best in any of the NWMCA grades this season.
And Sarah won the Women's Division 3 fielding award for her work behind the stumps - credited with five catches and involvement in four runouts.
Skipper Tara accepted the award on her behalf, as Sarah was a last-minute apology for the night due to illness.
Moonee Valley was represented at the night by Tara; Dean and wife Agatha; coach Wasim Abbas; Sixths captain Andreas Skiotis; and president Charlie Walker and wife Adele.
Deano just keeps getting better, bringing up his 400th wicket for Moonee Valley during the course of the season.

Valley juniors - best in comp

Two of our Moonee Valley juniors received best-in-comp awards at the NWMCA junior presentation night on March 28.
Celebrating their best-in-comp awards - Jeremy Sevenson (left) and Zac Nilsson.Under 16s captain Zac Nilsson won the Under 16 (3) Friday batting award, with 434 runs @ 72.33. Zac was a leading light for our team all year, and scored four unbeaten 50s.

Jeremy Sevenson won the comp bowling award in 2021/22, and showed his versatility and all-round ability this time around and won the Under 14 (4) Friday batting award - with 272 runs at an average of 136. Jez was only out once all season in the juniors.
Both Zac and Jeremy played plenty of senior cricket in 2022/23, and the experience clearly helped them with their play in the juniors.
Zac played three games in the Firsts and most of the rest of the season in the Seconds. Jeremy was a mainstay in the Sixths, and was promoted to the Fifths in the finals.
With young players like this, our senior future is well in hand.

A NIGHT TO SHINE FOR OUR JUNIOR STARS

Moonee Valley’s stars of the future – and some who have already arrived – were celebrated at our Junior Presentation Night at the Ormond Park pavilion on March 15.

Trophies for our Under 16s: L-R: Back - Assistant Coach Tom Morrissy, Miles Needham, Silas Bell, Cullan Morrissy, Harper Eason, Jordy Walsh, coach Wasim Abbas, Hayagreev Bashyam and scorer Charlie Walker. Front - Mark Lubansky, Zac Nilsson, Eden Del Citto.Under 16s captain Zac Nilsson won the Sherer Family Trophy as Junior Club Champion – winning for the second season in a row.

And Under 10s prodigy Augustus Rogers received a trophy for a feat only achieved once before in our 52-year history – a double hat-trick.
Our only other player to get a double hat-trick is Jesse Felle, who took his for the Thirds in 2016/17. And there’s a further connection to our juniors, as Jesse came all the way through our junior ranks.
MVCC Junior Co-ordinator Paul Simon noted that all our eligible junior teams made finals this season (Under 10s do not play finals) and every senior team also saw finals action – many of them including either current junior players or past juniors.
So our junior program is in good hands.
