Five for zip for Dynamic Deej
by
Young gun Dejan Gilevski took an incredible five wickets for zero runs as the Moonee Valley First Eleven crushed Footscray Angliss in the final round of the 2023/24 season and set up our finals campaign from top spot.
The Valleys were defending 154 in the March 2 one-day fixture - a total we weren't entirely comfortable with - and Angliss was on track in their chase at 1/40. Then opening bowler Steve Hazelwood got his second wicket.
Ruwan Jayaweera then picked up the next two wickets via excellent slips catches to Brayden McGregor to have them 4/46.
Skipper Jack Newman then threw the ball to the reliable Dejan, who took the next five wicket in 2.3 overs to have the game closed out at 59. Their last man did not come out to bat as he badly tore a hamstring while fielding.
At right: Dejan Gilevski with the ball he used to take five wickets for zero runs in the Firsts.
DJ, although he's still just 18, is one of the first picked in the Firsts each game, and won our First Eleven bowling award in 2021/22.
He's a force to be reckoned with.
