Thursday, February 4 is selection night at the North Suburban Club. 8.15pm - be there! For more details see the news item above.
Our Amelia tops the tournament
Moonee Valley's Amelia Radford was top of the tournament in the Commonwealth Bank's Under 16 State women's titles.
Amelia, who plays with our Under 14 A boys' side and also with Moonee Valley's senior women, excelled with both bat and ball in the series, representing the North West Wizards region.
The Player of the Series award was a fitting reward for her efforts.
Amelia has already done some intensive training with Victorian selectors and coaches in at the MCG indoor centre.
Her domination of the championships is sure to make the selectors for the State team sit up and take notice.
Proud parents Steve and Kerrie are regulars around our Club and key sponsors through their company, Dorr Fine Foods - and Steve as a member of our Fourth Eleven.
Ormond Park's hosting the Twenty20 Grand Final
Ormond Park will be hosting the Grand Final of the North West Cricket Association's Twenty20 competition on Tuesday, February 23.
The Valley boys will take on Buckley Park, after we went through our pool undefeated, accounting for Greenvale, Balmoral and Clarkefield along the way. Skipper Mark Gauci (right) has led the team from the front.
We had been trying hard for a Moonee Valley v Moonee Valley playoff, as we entered two teams in the competition and our second squad only just failed to win its way through.
Moonee Valley President Charlie Walker said our Club appreciated the NWCA decision to play the Grand Final at Ormond Park, after we ventured up to Taylors Lakes to play off in the big one in each of the two previous seasons.
"Moonee Valley is the reigning premier in this competition, and we regard it highly," Charlie said. "We appreciate the efforts which the NWCA has made to ensure that the best players possible are able to represent their clubs in this showcase of cricket."
The match starts at 5.30pm on Tuesday, February 23, and we urge all players and supporters to come down and watch us try to defend our crown. We will run a barbecue and full canteen.
Christmas Cheer at Moonee Valley
The Moonee Valley Cricket Club celebrated the holiday break-up in style, with a band, gourmet dinner and good company.
And no-one celebrated any harder than the players from our women's teams, who dressed up in their finery - and topped it off with tee-shirts specially made up to honor - or humor - their coach, Tony "Spongebob Squarepants" Sherer.
Wearing the shirts, featuring Tony's face on the Spongebob body, are L-R: Back - Vicki Moore, Victoria Thorneycroft, Kim Johnston, Tanya Intagliata, Diane Ward and Tien Ha. Front - Sam Lawson, Brooke Lawson, Sally Wilson and Clare Ardern.

Debney Park has been closed to cricket
Moonee Valley Cricket Club has been advised by the Moonee Valley Council that Debney Park has been withdrawn from service as a cricket ground until further notice.
Council advised the Club via email on Thursday, October 29 that the ground was closed following an inspection, and that unless measures were taken immediately to rejuvenate it the ground would continue to suffer.
We advised that in our view the Debney Park surface was considerably better than it has been in the previous two seasons.
Club President Charlie Walker (right) said that unfortunately the Council's decision leaves six of our teams without a home ground for the season - our senior Sevenths, Eighths and Ninths, our Women's White team and our Under 16 White and Gold teams.
Due to the severe disruption this will cause, our Committee has regretfully made the decision to withdraw our team from the MMVCA One Day Division 3 grade.
The captain of that team, Allan Cumming (left) will now skipper our NWCA One Day Black team.
Charlie said Moonee Valley regards Debney Park as one of our long-term grounds and an oval that is in the heartland of our demographic area.
"We will work closely with the Council to develop a long-term solution that ensures that this asset continues to be available to our Club and the local cricket community in a sustainable manner into the future," he said.

Tony Sherer's our women's coach
Tony Sherer is coach of our women's teams for season 2009/10.
Tony (right) said he was excited at the opportunity to play a major role in the development of our women's teams, which have shown solid improvement in our two seasons in the VTCA.
The Club still has spots for new players in our two teams.
