Moonee Valley Cricket Club

The Moonee Valley Cricket Club celebrated the holiday break-up in style, with a band, gourmet dinner and good company.
And no-one celebrated any harder than the players from our women's teams, who dressed up in their finery - and topped it off with tee-shirts specially made up to honor - or humor - their coach, Tony "Spongebob Squarepants" Sherer.

Valley support for Breast Cancer day
Moonee Valley’s First and Second Elevens will be playing their matches with pink balls on January 16 to demonstrate our support for breast cancer initiatives.
The Victorian Turf Cricket Association has designated the one-day round as the Platypus Pink Ball Round, and the match balls have been colored with the shade now seen to symbolise breast cancer awareness.
Shown here with the pink match balls (on the night Moonee Valley demolished Greenvale in the
NWCA Twenty20 with Sean O'Kane making 154, including 20 sixes) are coach Lou Raffaele with
women's team members Kim Johnston (left) and Sam Lawson.

Moonee Valley president Charlie Walker said the Club fully endorsed the Pink Ball Round.
“Breast cancer and cricket are closely associated as a result of the death of Jane McGrath, who was the wife of Australian fast bowling great Glenn McGrath,” he said.
“Breast cancer is an issue of significant concern to women.
“Through the creation of our women’s teams over the past three seasons, Moonee Valley Cricket Club has demonstrated our own commitment to women’s sport, wellbeing and healthy lifestyles.
“The Pink Ball Round gives us the opportunity to publicly show this.”

Debney Park has been closed to cricket
WalkerCharlie2008MarchMoonee Valley Cricket Club has been advised by the Moonee Valley Council that Debney Park has been withdrawn from service as a cricket ground until further notice.
Council advised the Club via email on Thursday, October 29 that the ground was closed following an inspection, and that unless measures were taken immediately to rejuvenate it the ground would continue to suffer.
We advised that in our view the Debney Park surface was considerably better than it has been in the previous two seasons.
CummingAllan2009OctClub President Charlie Walker (right) said that unfortunately the Council's decision leaves six of our teams without a home ground for the season - our senior Sevenths, Eighths and Ninths, our Women's White team and our Under 16 White and Gold teams.
Due to the severe disruption this will cause, our Committee has regretfully made the decision to withdraw our team from the MMVCA One Day Division 3 grade.
The captain of that team, Allan Cumming (left) will now skipper our NWCA One Day Black team.
Charlie said Moonee Valley regards Debney Park as one of our long-term grounds and an oval that is in the heartland of our demographic area.
"We will work closely with the Council to develop a long-term solution that ensures that this asset continues to be available to our Club and the local cricket community in a sustainable manner into the future," he said.
