Withdrawal of our women's team
by
Valley women’s team 2011/12
Moonee Valley Cricket Club has reluctantly had to withdraw its womens team for the 2011/12 season due to a drop in player numbers.
Our Club tried hard to attract extra player numbers while we forfeited the first three rounds, but advertising and approaches to schools did not generate any recruits.
We then advised the Victorian Women’s Cricket Association of our decision to withdraw.
The formation of a new women’s team at Craigieburn did not assist our cause, as five Moonee Valley players sought clearances to enable them to play with a club closer to where they lived.
We are confident that the chance to work on recruiting in the off-season will enable us to develop numbers to again re-enter the competition.
We have the full support of the VWCA in our determination to field a team again next season, with offers of assistance from Cricket Victoria’s women’s club administrator Erini Gianakopoulos and VWCA board member Alanna Duffy.
Moonee Valley has fielded women's teams since the 2007/08 season.
