Season-defining win for our Under 16s

Moonee Valley’s Under 16s had a season-defining win in Round 3 when they powered past Flemington on the back of an unbeaten century from keeper/batsman Mitchell Evans.
Mitch was backed up by a hard-hitting 54no from Paul Bannister as we easily took the points.
Club president and past Under 16s coach Charlie Walker said the win was probably the best we’ve had at the Under 16 level for three or four seasons.
We’ve now had two wins from the first three games in the Under 16s season, with a narrow 10-run loss in Round 1 when we fielded just eight players.
Coach Simon Thornton said it was obvious that our players now believed in their ability, and were playing accordingly.
Moonee Valley 4/215cc def Flemington 7/109cc. The October 30/November 6 game was reduced to 35 overs per side after just 21 overs were played on Day 1 due to rain.
We got a steady start from openers Alex Gorham and Ben Dilisio, lost a couple of middle-order wickets and then were untroubled to pass the Flemington total and then power on to a big score.
Earlier in the day, we got two quick wickets from Vish Chopra, and single wickets to Alex Gorham, Alex Coote, Nick Brelis and Paul Bannister.
Our team has been bolstered by Under 14 players, including Shan Amunagama and Matthew Wenlock, when they have not been available on the day that their team plays.
We have also entered into an agreement with Flemington, which has excess players at Under 16 level, to fill spare spots with any of their boys who are squeezed out each round.
