******This Wednesday - Twenty20 games to benefit Bushfire fund*******
Sean Sturrock 08-188pixMoonee Valley Cricket Club has joined forces with other local clubs to put on a “big bash” show this Wednesday, February 18 to aid the bushfire appeal.
Players from Aberfeldie Park, Greenvale and Craigieburn will form a “Rest of the World” team to take on Moonee Valley – the current NWCA Twenty20 champion – in a charity match at Ormond Park. Former Valleys junior Sean Sturrock (right), now a Melbourne Firsts player, has agreed to come back and play for us in the game.
And the excitement doesn’t stop there, as national and State women’s cricketers have indicated their willingness to be part of a Twenty20 game with the Valley women’s players on the adjoining oval.
The clubs and players are arranging raffles, food and other fundraisers to aid the bushfire appeal.
Local AFL footballers and cricketing legends, as well as players and officials from other local cricket clubs, are all coming down to show their support and help raise funds.
We have also had a massive response from sponsors, supporters and other people wanting to help with the appeal, so there will be plenty of action and plenty of opportunity for people to put their hands in their pockets.
The games start at 5pm, and Moonee Valley Firsts captain Mark Gauci urged local cricketers and members of the community to come along and support the worthy cause.
“The appeal holds special significance for our Club as one of our players, Bryce Peter-Budge lost two grandparents and an uncle in the fires,” Mark said.
“These matches will give us the opportunity to do something tangible for the bushfire victims, and remind us that for the time being communities such as Kinglake, Narbethong and Churchill – which no doubt had their own thriving cricket teams – will have issues other than sport foremost in their minds.”

Ormond Park is in Pattison St, Moonee Ponds. Anyone wanting more information or to support the fundraiser can ring MVCC president Charlie Walker on 0409 237 543.
