Tight Tussle in Twenty20 tourney
Moonee Valley beat VTCA powerhouse Airport West-St Christophers in the first round of the Kookaburra Twenty20 competition, but it wasn't enough to get us through to the next round.
With the chance to stay live in the quest to play in a final on the MCG, we wilted in the second of our back-to-back games on November 8 to go down against St Francis.
St Francis in turn went down to APW in the final match, but got through to the next round on net run rate.
The clubs were representing the associations in Cricket Victoria's Region 10 - Moonee Valley playing for the honor of the North West Cricket Association, APW for the Victorian Turf Cricket Association and St Francis playing for the MMVCA.
We pipped Airport West when Dushan Raveendrakumar hit a massive six off the last ball of our innings, but struggled to contain St Francis when we had to back up with our second game on the trot in the hot conditions.
Our team is pictued above, on Airport West's Hansen Reserve. L-R: Back - Steve Gentilin,
Amit Chaudhary, Lou Raffaele, Tom King, David Roach, Matt Thomas, Dushan Raveendrakumar.
Front - Raj Aiyappan, Sean O'Kane, Pat Felmingham and Ben Thomas.
Tony Sherer played in the first game.
