Cricket Season 2010/11 - the only thing missing is the cricket
Season 2010/11 was the promise of big things to come for the Moonee Valley Cricket Club - our Firsts, Seconds and Thirds moving to higher grades, our Fifths moving across from hard wickets to turf - and expectations across all grades and age groups.
But a real dampener has been put on our season - and it's nothing to do with form, fitness or commitment.
Wet weather has killed off the first half of season 2010/11 - not just for Moonee Valley, but for all clubs.
In the first nine weeks of the season, through to and including the November 27/28 weekend, each of our four turf sides have taken to the field just twice.
Our matting sides haven't fared much better - and the only senior team to regularly get on thei park for the majority of their games is the women.
Our Sixths in MMVCA 3 Mats and our Fourths in NWCA Barron Shield have have taken to the field just four times in the nine weeks.
With the start to the season two weeks after two-day grades and with a layoff for the Cox Plate weekend, our Sevenths in the MMVCA One Day 2 grade have played just twice up to the end of November. With the strange fixturing of two byes, our Eighths in One Day 3 have played just once - just one game by the end of November.
Our Ninths in the One Day Red grade of NWCA, playing Sunday games, have taken to the field four times.
By contrast, our women's team has had six games and a bye.
Our Under 10s have got a regular start, but our other junior teams are struggling to get on the park due to washouts.
