Our gun fielders

Our Fieldlow vote count was held down at our Ormond Park clubrooms on February 28, and our gun fielders were recognised in the voting.

We had winners across all 10 senior grades, and the voting was very close in most cases.

Astute punters were quickly on to the results of the count for our Women’s team after a well-placed leak revealed the results, but some of the other counts went right down to the wire.

Many players polled votes across a number of grades – and the overall leader at our Club was John Brelis with 37 votes, from James Rawlinson and Sharafat Ali on 31.

John was at the count looking anything but a fielder – on crutches due to a basketball injury the weekend before.

The Fieldlow count is traditionally held on the Thursday selection night leading in to the first final.

The winner and runner-up in each grade was:

First Eleven: Geoff McKeown 26, Lou Raffaele 20.

Second Eleven: Evan Blythe 22, Ben Thomas 18.

Third Eleven: James Rawlinson 31, Dino Sapuppo 13.

Fourth Eleven: Peter Chiera and William Lai – tied on 13.

Fifth Eleven: Phill King 20, James Johnston 19.

Sixth Eleven: Paul Hobbs 19, Alan Harry 14.

Seventh Eleven: Shaun Rayment 23, Shane Comino 21.

Eighth Eleven: John Brelis 33, Peter Fenaughty 26.

Ninth Eleven: Jason Dolezal-May 19, Peter Golding 15.

Women’s Eleven: Tien Ha 25, Sally Wilson 24.

It’s pleasing to see the development of some of the gun fielders in our junior ranks – James Johnston in the Fifths is in the Under 16s, and Peter Chiera in the Fourths and Jason Dolezal-May in the Ninths are in our Under 14s.
