Hundred runs for Charlie

by

Moonee Valley president Charlie Walker made 100 runs playing in the Ninths at home at Ormond Park on Sunday - but you won't see it in Wisden any time soon.

His century wasn't for a fine knock against St Andrews - but the accumulated total of his runs in the middle since he commenced his career in 2002.

And given that Wisden only records the tons scored in a single match, Charlie's achievement won't be one for the record books.

Charlie started the season on 98 runs, and with a first-ball duck, a 0 not out (did not face a ball) and two did-not-bats, he looked anchored on the score until 2009/10.

But batting at No. 11, he snicked a single for 99, then a well-executed hook behind square for four brought up the three figures in Charlie's 60th game.

But his masterful 8 not out didn't rate as far as the family was concerned - son Murray made 48 to win match of the match in the suspenseful Thirds win over Sunshine YCW, and Nigel top-scored with 34no in the Eighths game v Strathmore Heights - his 50th match for the Club.
