Cricket Victoria's Club of the Week

by

This is the text of the "Club of the Week" article on the Cricket Victoria website in the 2003/04 season.

Moonee Valley CC, whilst experiencing considerable on-field success, recognised that it needed to look to the future in order to maintain that success. Since introducing a modest junior program in season 1996/97, the Club now has 110 junior cricketers taking the field each week and places a strong focus on the skill and personal development of younger players.

Four of the Club’s teenage players who in the past two seasons have graduated from U16 ranks have recently been given the opportunity and responsibility of coaching Moonee Valley CC’s two U10 teams.

Each of the boys has completed their Level 1 Coaching Accreditation which was funded by the Club and all four are also accredited umpires.

Their responsibilities at the Club involve coaching their U10’s on Friday nights, umpiring junior matches on Saturday mornings and playing senior cricket for Moonee Valley in the afternoons.

The Club believes that the largest benefit they have received from their investment in a strong junior program over the past eight seasons has been the development of young boys (and girls) who have a commitment to the Club, and a willingness to put something back by helping the next generation of players coming along.

As a club featured as ‘Club of the Week’, Moonee Valley CC will receive a prize to the value of $200, which will further assist them in increasing participation or developing a healthy and welcoming club environment.
